Health/Wellness Companies: Are You Not Getting the Sales You Want from Email Marketing?
By: Aaron Williams III
I know what you’ve been thinking.
You’ve been thinking, “Why aren’t our subscribers buying more memberships? Do they not want a 30% discount? Should we bump it up to 40% instead?”
This confuses you even more when you realize that other gyms are using emails to sell more memberships with cheaper discounts.
Maybe you’re a nutrition company that has emailed this free vegan diet meal plan to your subscribers in hopes that they will become paying customers. You find out that they aren’t opening your emails, or even worse – unsubscribing.
Whether you’re a gym, a nutrition company, or anything health/wellness related, I’m here to tell you this: it’s NOT your fault.
There are so many complicated rules to follow in this email marketing game. This is especially true for the health/wellness industry since it’s so currently bloated, which can make it hard to stand out.
In this post, I’ll teach you 3 ways you can use email marketing to earn more sales for your health/wellness company.
1) Your Subject Line Should Captivate Your Reader’s Eyes
If you want to obtain sales from your email marketing strategy, you MUST make sure that your subject line catches the reader’s attention.
One way you can do this is by addressing a key problem that your audience has (which is great because solving your own problems is something that everyone should want to do).
For example, let’s say you’re with a gym with an audience of people who are new to health/wellness but still want fit legs.
A subject line you can come up with is “5 Exercises Beginners Can Do to Increase Leg Muscle.” That way, you are specifying the kind of person you are targeting with what exercises they can do.
Plus, you should be using the subject line to give your readers a preview of what you’ll be talking about.
However, make sure that you DO deliver that promise exactly as you stated in the subject line to go along with the body of your email. Otherwise, you run the risk of providing clickbait and upsetting your subscribers.
2) Make Sure the “Meat” of Your Argument is Properly “Marinated”
Ok, all bad puns aside, you should definitely create an email body that is organized, focused, and captivating enough for the reader to want to take action. You should also make sure that you stress the benefits rather than the features because people care more about how it helps them, not just what is on the product.
To stay organized, use headers, bullets, and emphasize bold words when necessary. These things draw good attention to the most important things in your email, and they help the reader stay on track.
It also doesn’t hurt to add a bit of storytelling to what you’re trying to sell, while making sure it relates to the product at hand.
For instance, if you’re a counselor with an audience mostly consisting of people dealing with infidelity from their spouse, give a story as to how you were in the same situation, feeling lonely and/or betrayed. If you haven’t experienced infidelity yet, give an example of how you felt down in the dumps and what you did to lift yourself back up.
Remember: facts tell, but stories sell.
3) Close Your Message with the Intent on Continuing the Conversation
Now, you’re probably muttering, “Wait, that doesn’t make any sense.” Don’t worry; I assure you that I am not a crazy person when I say that.
What I mean is make your last few sentences so impactful that your subscribers will want to come back and not only read more of your emails, but buy your products. I mean, isn’t that what this entire post is about in the first place?
If you’re like that nutrition company I mentioned earlier, one way you could do this is with a specific call-to-action. You can create a button that says, “I Want to Try Your Vegan Diet Mean Plan!” or whatever you want to use as your text.
If you don’t want to do buttons, then it’s perfectly fine giving the reader a basic link to follow at the end of your email, as long as you encourage them to take a specific action.
Whatever you decide to do should still be very effective because at this point, you’ve already referenced your audience. You’ve also established how important your product is by listing what it does for them, and you’ve even created great storytelling to keep them engaged.
That sounds like a win-win-win to me!
Concluding Thoughts
In conclusion, the 3 ways you can increase your sales from email marketing are by captivating the reader with a strong subject line, making sure that the “meat,” or the body, of your email is great, and ending on such a good note that your reader will want to come back for more.
By following these tips, you can be certain that you will be experiencing much more success in your email marketing than before.
On that note, I encourage you to not only apply these useful tips, but share these with other businesses that might need this.
Although we are a part of different companies and businesses, we still have the same goal in mind: to provide people with the best health/wellness resources possible. I think the people should come first; wouldn’t you agree?
Until next time.
