Gnarly Nutrition Social Media Captions

Client/Objectives

Gnarly Nutrition is a sports nutrition brand that prides itself on clean, natural nutrition that helps you challenge what’s possible. Gnarly offers high-performance fuel for whatever physical activity you’re doing, whether that’s biking, rock climbing, or weightlifting.

Even though kids can use their products, the brand’s messaging is much more lighthearted and sarcastic. So, this would generally appeal to a young adult audience (probably around the 18-35 age range).

Gnarly wanted me to create social media captions that promoted them, their sports supplements, and the athletes that they have partnered with. 

Challenges

Gnarly’s brand voice is generally playful, but it still comes across as scientific. One of the big challenges I actually came across was to create captions that mixed humor with knowledge.

Also, whenever I wrote rough drafts, I would always go back and think to myself, “How can I make these more engaging for their audience?” That was another big challenge that came with this project.

Solutions

To solve the first challenge, I added in some wit to the captions. One of the lines that I came up with was “At Gnarly Nutrition, we’re all about shattering glass ceilings like an opera singer shatters eardrums.” 

Sentences like these – while also providing facts – allowed me to stay consistent with the brand’s comical, yet smart, voice.

For the second challenge, I mixed in a bit of storytelling. Check out the post about Tropical Fuel2O (2nd post from the top), for instance. 

Near the beginning, I took the reader on a journey by having them visualize life on a beach. This was to help paint a clear picture of the experience that customers would get from trying out TropicalFuel2O.
 

Notes

I really enjoyed having the freedom to tap into my creativity and to tell stories inside the captions. In my opinion, storytelling is what truly sells because you get to learn more about a person/brand to connect with them organically.
